If you find a hole in your subwoofer's cone, take your time looking for a replacement speaker. Such damage is repaired with success and does not have a noticeable effect on the operation of the subwoofer speaker.
It is necessary
- - glue "Moment";
- - cardboard;
- - screwdriver;
- - scissors;
- - hairdryer.
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the subwoofer from the amplifier. Remove the speaker grill and unscrew the speaker mounting screws. Pull the speaker out of the cabinet carefully, disconnect the speaker wires.
Step 2
Inspect the speaker cone for damage to the voice coil flex leads.
Step 3
Using scissors, cut a patch of a suitable size from thin cardboard so that it covers the hole at least an inch in each direction. Any cardboard will do, you can use a cardboard box of chocolates. Very often the shape of a diffuser is formed by a double curvature surface. In this case, you can make 2 or 3 patches, which are best glued one to the other with an overlap.
Step 4
Align the edges of the damaged part of the diffuser, saturate the back with Moment glue, the paper material of the diffuser and wait for the glue to dry.
Step 5
Prepare pre-cut patches. Liberally moisten the damaged area of the diffuser on the back with glue and immediately apply the patches one by one. The goal is to saturate the parts to be joined with glue.
Step 6
Move the patches away from the diffuser, but do not remove them. Wait 20-30 seconds and attach the patches back. Press them against the diffuser from the back side by placing a cotton wool or synthetic winterizer roller inside the speaker basket. At the same time, make sure that the diffuser does not swell at the gluing site, in general, select the optimal pressing force of the patches, while maintaining the initial shape of the diffuser.
Step 7
After a day, remove the support roller from the speaker basket and inspect how the connection is glued. If you find areas that are not glued, bring the tip of the Moment glue tube to the gap, gently press on the tube and squeeze in some glue. The goal is to eliminate chatter during speaker operation. Gently heat the glue seam with a hair dryer until the glue boils, move the hair dryer and squeeze the gluing area with your fingers. Hold for at least a minute, after which the glue will set and its strength will be enough to hold the patch.
Step 8
Carefully slide the diffuser in and out. Make sure that it does not hit the magnet with the coil when moving.
Step 9
If necessary, replace the sealing gum, connect the speaker wires to the speaker, and reinstall it.
Step 10
Make a test switch on at a low volume, make sure that there is no bounce during operation. Gradually increase the volume to maximum, listening carefully for the absence of extraneous sounds. If no overtones are found, install the grille.
