Apple mobile devices such as the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad have a closed operating system. This means that the concept of "formatting" cannot be applied to them. Instead of formatting, Apple developers have provided a system restore for mobile devices.

Instructions
Step 1
System restore will bring iOS back to its original "store" look. You will receive a completely clean, unactivated phone with factory settings. All downloaded media files, be they games, music or photos, will be deleted.
Initially, make sure that your phone has passed the PCT (Rostest) or is incorrect. Neverlock is assigned to some iPhones imported from the US or European countries. The built-in non-lock will allow the phone to work with a SIM card of any Russian operator after recovery.
Step 2
If the phone was purchased outside of Russia and does not have a nonlocker, there is a high probability that after restoration it will not ring. As a result, instead of an iPhone, you get an iPod Touch, fully functional, but without a GSM function. On devices of some series, this is treated by unlock - unlocking the GSM-chip. However, some of the phones cannot be restored. Therefore, the restoration of an iPhone purchased abroad, you perform at your own peril and risk.
Step 3
Download the version of the iOS operating system to which you will be recovering. iOS is presented as a single distribution file with the *.ipsw extension. Links to all existing firmware for iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and 4 are located here:
Step 4
Once the firmware is downloaded, launch Apple iTunes on your PC or Mac. If iTunes is not installed on your computer, download the latest version of the program from the manufacturer's website
Step 5
Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone to a USB 2.0 port on your computer and wait until the sync with your iTunes library finishes. Then hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and the Restore button on the Browse tab in iTunes.
An explorer window will appear in front of you, in which you need to find the previously downloaded ipsw file with the operating system. Double-click on the selected file with the left mouse button.
Step 6
A bar with the software extraction level will appear on the monitor screen, after which the recovery of the device will begin. During recovery, do not disconnect the USB cable from your phone or computer. Upon completion of the process, a message about successful recovery will appear on the screen. You can now activate your iPhone.
