Landline telephones have two dialing modes: tone and impulse. And these modes depend on the phone itself and the capabilities of the PBX. Most automatic telephone exchanges have already switched to tone-based operation. Old-style phone, i.e. with rotary dial, works only in pulse mode, and you will not be able to put it in tone mode.

Instructions

Step 1

The pulse mode of operation itself is a method or method of dialing a telephone number, with the help of which the digits of the dialed number are transmitted to the PBX by step-by-step closing and opening of the telephone line, the number of pulses will correspond to the transmitted number, but note that the number "zero" will correspond to 10 pulses. The spaces between the numbers will be encoded with a long pause.

Step 2

And tone mode is a method of dialing a phone number, in which you hear sounds of different tones. Only one tone will correspond to each number. This mode is used in mobile phones, and only with it you can quickly dial a number or enter an additional number during a call.

Step 3

Based on all this, you will be able to determine what mode your telephone is in: if it is in the tone mode, then you hear tones of different frequencies, each digit has its own sound, and if in the impulsive mode, you hear the transmission of impulses, the number of which is equal to the dialed digit.

Step 4

You can change pulse dialing to tone dialing. It is changed by pressing the "asterisk" ("*") button before dialing the number, for example, * 8 "phone number". This button is located in the lowest row. When using this method, you only change the mode once, i.e. each time you dial a number, you will have to press the "star" button. In order not to suffer with this in the future, press the Tone (T / I) button on your phone, on most modern phones such a button exists.

Step 5

If all else fails, refer to your phone's instructions. Also, if your telephone company is still using the pulse system, then you will not be able to switch to tone mode, regardless of the phone model.
