Step 1
Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, although a thing of the past, giving way to newer advances, are still very popular and are often found in various devices. After purchasing, check if there is any charge left in the battery. If so, then it must be spent. And only when the battery icon flashes or the device turns off completely, you can start charging. Connect the battery to the charger and leave it to full charge for 12-16 hours. It is most convenient to do this at night, when the device is definitely not needed by anyone, and no one will use it.
After fully charging, discharge the battery again to the very end and recharge it until it stops. Repeat these steps 3-4 times. This will serve as overclocking the battery. The battery can now be used normally. But still, try to stick to full charge and discharge. This will help the nickel battery last longer.
Step 2
A newer and more advanced battery is a lithium-ion (Li-Ion). It does not require overclocking. It can be used immediately as usual. Nevertheless, try to adhere to the following scheme: discharge the new battery almost to the end (until the battery icon flashes). Without waiting for the device to turn off, connect the battery to the charger. Charging can be done up to 20 hours. By properly charging the battery the first time and all subsequent times, you will help it last longer and save more energy.
