Step 1
Before you buy a new stick of RAM, you need to know exactly what you need to buy:
- Pentium I - PC-66, PC-100, EDO;
- Pentium II, III - PC-100, PC-133;
- Pentium IV, Centrino - PC-2100, PC-2700, PC-3200.
Step 2
Before disassembling the laptop case, use the services of diagnostic programs that can show the type of your RAM. You can use Everest Ultimate or SiSoftware Sandra. Consider SiSoftware's Sandra program. In order to get information about the type of RAM installed in your system, you must click the "Summary Information" button. In the window of the running process, find the line "Memory Bus Speed" (Memory Bus Speed). Now that you know the speed of the memory bus, you can choose the appropriate type of RAM:
- 100 MHz - PC-100;
- 133 MHz - PC-133;
- 266 MHz - PC-2100;
- 333 MHz - PC-2700;
- 400 MHz - PC-3200.
Step 3
After purchasing the appropriate RAM, you need to disassemble the laptop. Typically, the memory compartment is located near the back (bottom) of the laptop. The cover is unscrewed with a screwdriver, there is always one screw.

After opening the compartment, it is necessary to move apart the white fasteners that hold the RAM in this slot. Grasp the memory bar with your fingers to pull it out. Replace with a new one and reassemble the laptop in reverse order.
