There are several ways to reduce the amount of ink used in your printer. This is a change in printer settings aimed at decreasing the fill value and brightness, switching to a different ink and lowering the maximum fill value even during the creation of the image.

Step 1
The standard way to reduce ink consumption is to turn on Printer Save Mode. To change these settings, open in an open document "Print" - "Printer properties" - "Print settings" - "Graphics". Here in the "Printer Saving Mode" checkbox on "On" or in the same tab in the "Density" checkbox "Light".
Step 2
Some printers or multifunctional devices allow the user to make the desired settings on the machine itself on the LCD monitor. Select the appropriate item in the menu and use the arrows or "+ -" buttons to set the required parameter. Confirm your choice with the "Menu" or "Ok" button.
Step 3
Decreasing the brightness and fill value in the printer software is not the best option. The color balance is disturbed and incorrect color rendition occurs. It is best to change the fill value when creating an ICC profile for each material separately. However, here it is important not to overdo it with saving toner - at low optical density, the richness of the print and its opacity will suffer.
Step 4
If the ink is not of high quality, print defects such as sharp jagged transitions from light to dark may occur. Therefore, it is best if you buy quality ink, since, despite the higher cost, they provide a large resource for reducing density without losing density and wide gamut.
Step 5
In addition to the printer settings and ink quality, frequent cleaning of the printheads can be a cause of overspending. When using volatile solvents for such cleaning, the nozzles dry out. As a result, a large amount of ink is wasted without getting on the surface of the material. Frequent cleaning during printing also slows down printing speed. This again raises the question of ink quality.
