Depending on the type of camcorder you are using, there are different ways to copy video to your computer. Determine the type of device you are using and select the one that best suits your needs.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are using a camcorder that records video to the built-in hard disk drive (HDD) or memory card (Flash card), follow these steps. Connect the camera to your computer using the appropriate USB cable. Connect the first end to the connector on the camcorder itself, and the second to the USB connector on your computer. Then press the power button. If necessary, select the connection mode that matches the data transfer (copying).
Step 2
The system will automatically detect the new device. Open "My Computer" using Explorer, then go to the folder of the connected camcorder (if it uses both a hard disk and a memory card, two devices may be displayed). Find the corresponding video files, select them, right-click and select "Copy". Next, open the folder on your computer's hard drive where you are going to copy the video from the camera, right-click and select "Paste". Wait for the end of the copying process.
Step 3
If you used a memory card to record videos, you can proceed as follows. Turn off the camcorder and remove the memory card from it. Insert it into the card reader of your computer and open the appropriate directory using the explorer of the operating system. Find the required video files and copy them to a folder on your hard drive.
Step 4
If you are using a camcorder that records video to tape (MiniDV, HDV), follow these steps. Connect your camera to your computer with a DV cable. Connect one end to the camera itself, and the other to the IEEE1394 connector on your computer. Start a video import program (such as Windows Movie Maker). Turn on the video import mode from the camera, set the desired video quality settings, the storage location on the disk and start the copying process by clicking the corresponding button.
