The melody is the basis of a piece of music, the leading voice. During a short (3-4 minutes) piece, up to fifty motives of different nature can be performed, each of which requires a special approach. A composer needs a whole arsenal of technical means, knowledge and skills to type a melody.

Instructions

Step 1

Develop your hearing. Music-theoretical disciplines will help you with this: elementary music theory, solfeggio, harmony, polyphony. The classes will be difficult and require strong dedication from you, but as a result you will master the necessary set of knowledge. First, you will be able to coordinate your hearing and voice. In other words, you can easily and falsely reproduce a melody after a single playback (this is done by one-voice solfeggio), find the desired melodic line in an interval or chord (two-, three-, four-voice solfeggio). Musical dictations are aimed at educating the inner ear. Thanks to them, you can reproduce the rhythm and melody if you hear them under the influence of inspiration.

Harmony will teach you to navigate in chords and steps, that is, to navigate the entire musical fabric, from melody to bass. Polyphony is aimed at roughly the same.

Step 2

Listen to music from different authors. Play it on any available instrument, without referring to notes. This will further strengthen your listening skills. Test yourself by finding the notes of the piece and comparing it to what you are playing. Pay attention to typical mistakes, correct them with exercises for specific intervals and chords.

Step 3

Study the history of music: features of style, instruments, characteristic techniques of performance. Play pieces in each of the studied styles in order to understand all the subtleties in practice.

Step 4

Listen to your own melody, write out the notes as a dictation. Play the instrument to compare what you hear and what you write. Correct as needed.

Don't worry about whether the melodies will appear in your head. As you gain knowledge in the field of performing arts and music theory, you will learn to perceive the ideas that come up.
