All high-power devices require high-quality grounding in the house. Grounding is connected to them through a special contact in the socket and in the plug. Also, devices can have a special grounding terminal.
How to ground water heating equipment in a private house
Grounding should be installed near the house in an open area of land. You will need 3 iron pins and steel wire to install it. One of the ends of each pin must be sharpened, and on the opposite end, a bolt of the corresponding diameter must be welded. The pins can be positioned on the ground arbitrarily, but the distance between each of them must be 3 m or more. Most often they are placed on the ground in the form of an isosceles triangle with sides of more than 3 m.
The pins are driven into the ground with a hammer so that the bolts welded to the ends do not reach at least 5 cm to the ground level. The edge of the steel wire is screwed to the grounding terminal on the water heater case. The wire is laid along the walls, bending in the necessary places, reaching the outlet that leads to the street. From the outside of the house, the wire is laid up to the pins driven into the ground.
Washers are put on the bolts. Then one or two turns of wire are wound and another washer is put on. The wire is wound and tightened firmly with a wrench. The wire must be looped, namely, connect the beginning and the end of the ground loop with a wire on one or two pins.
How to ground a boiler in an apartment
First of all, you need to inspect the body of the water heater and check for the presence of a kit for the grounding system. It includes a fork and nut with studs and washers.
It is recommended to use a copper cable with a cross section of at least 1.5 cm for grounding.
The electrical network leading from the distribution board on the floor should also be checked to ensure that all metal parts are connected to the grounding system.
The socket with a grounding element must be located at least half a meter from the water heater and 80 cm from the floor. A three-core cable is laid from the shield to the outlet. The best way of laying is hidden, with wall chasing. But the option of pulling under a plastic groove is also not bad.
If the water heater has a special separate grounding system, the wire is connected directly to the clamp on its body.
After pulling the cable, the cores at both ends are split and connected to the terminals of the shield and the socket. Typically, cable conductors vary in color. Before connecting the wires, observing their color, the apartment must be de-energized. A special bolt is used to secure the grounding wire. After all the wires are connected to their places, you need to turn on the voltage and check the outlet with an indicator.
