Wikipad is a Los Angeles-based company that is so far known to the general public only for its plans to produce a tablet computer, largely aimed at gamers. The tablet will carry the same name. It was first shown in January 2012 at the US Consumer Electronics Show.
Of the essential features of the new device, it is necessary to note the removable control knobs - gamepad - on both sides of the case, made as a single unit. When connected to a tablet, they cover the speakers with specially shaped tubes, which the manufacturer claims improve the sound. Another, more revolutionary innovation - the screen should have a 3D image mode, making it unnecessary to use special 3D glasses to get a three-dimensional effect. For the first time, a prototype of the new device was shown at the CES-2012 exhibition held in Las Vegas, but after this presentation of the tablet, changes were made to it.
According to the latest data, the device will run Android 4.0 ICS and have an NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. One gigabyte of DDR2 RAM will be supplemented with 16 GB flash memory in the minimum configuration. The tablet will have a 10, 1-inch display on an IPS-matrix, giving a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. However, in the first versions planned for release, this screen will not reproduce the image with a three-dimensional effect. Two cameras are built into the case of a mobile computer - a 2-megapixel one on the front side and an 8-megapixel one on the back of the gadget. The battery in the case, weighing 560 grams, should provide an autonomous six hours of continuous play or eight hours of video playback.
In the summer, it became known about the conclusion of an agreement between the manufacturer of a new computer and Gaikai, a provider of streaming gaming services. This means that you can start playing on a new computer immediately after unpacking it and connecting to the Internet. According to the president of Wikipad, James Bower (James Bower), the release of the tablet for gamers is scheduled to begin this year. However, neither the date of this event, nor the price of the new device are yet known.
