Wikipad is a US company that manufactures a tablet computer. At the January 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in America, the company announced the development of the Wikipad Android gaming tablet.
The Wikipad company showed a sample of a tablet computer designed for game lovers. The thing is that the tablet will be equipped with a removable gamepad, that is, a joystick. Thanks to this manipulator, Android will resemble a game console. In addition, the tablet computer is planned to be equipped with a 3D display and an 8-megapixel built-in video camera.
The 10-inch tablet computer will have a joystick and buttons for games, the device will be equipped with a 4-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The developers also thought about storing information, they placed 16 GB of internal memory of the gadget on 1 GB of DDR2 RAM. The weight of the gaming device is only 560 grams, and the thickness is about 9 mm.
In January 2012, the company presented a slightly different tablet computer at an international exhibition in America, it was equipped with a 7-inch display. The prototype did not have a gamepad, this game pad appeared during the development of the main model. In the summer of the same year, Wikipad entered into an agreement with a private company "Gaikai B. V.", which is a provider of streaming gaming services. What does this cooperation give? Owners of an Android gaming tablet will be able to join the game immediately after unpacking the file and connecting to the global network. But now this business relationship is in question, because the Gaikai gaming service was bought by Sony, which is the manufacturer of the rival of the Android tablet - the Sony PlayStation Vita game console.
The developers of Wikipad promise to release a tablet computer by the end of 2012. The exact number of Android sales is currently unknown. The cost of such a device will be approximately $ 200, but this price can still be adjusted.
