The color depth of a picture can be conventionally called the number of colors that is displayed in a given image. This parameter can be either increased or decreased, depending on your wishes and needs.

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install software for working with photos and other graphics on your computer to change the color depth. As mentioned earlier, the color depth can be changed in both directions, i.e. increase and decrease. It is important to understand the very mechanism of this process.

Step 2

If you want to increase the color depth, then you must increase the total number of colors in the image. That is, for example, if you are working with a black-and-white image, in which the color depth is reduced to a minimum (it consists only of pure black and white colors without additional shades), then you need to increase this number at least to 4. In this case the picture will acquire additional shades, due to which the color depth will increase.

Step 3

Use the most popular graphics editor Adobe Photoshop. It has a wide range of image processing capabilities, including functions such as changing the color depth. Run the program. Load the drawing into it. Go to the properties of the image, select the item "Color Depth".

Step 4

Note that increasing the color depth automatically increases the size of the image. The more shades are present in the picture, the larger the file size will be. If you need to optimize a picture for a website that is intended for its design, do not increase the number of colors too much. If the picture is full-color, then the optimal number of shades will be 256 thousand. Otherwise, if this is just a background, you can get by with much less. Agree, why give an ordinary turquoise background depth, including shades of gray in its composition? Choose a suitable number of shades from the menu, look at the image. If that's enough, save your changes.
