In most cases, the cause of a transformer malfunction can be a short circuit, a broken wire insulation during prolonged heavy load or for natural reasons. In any case, the transformer is being repaired. And for this, it is necessary to be able to properly disassemble and replace faulty components.

Step 1

Check if there is a fuse on the transformer before disassembling it. To do this, remove the protective insulation from the primary winding and check it with a tester for an open circuit. If the problem lies precisely in the fuse, replace the faulty section of the wire and restore the integrity of the structure.

Step 2

Remove all fittings from the transformer. If the plates are not welded, try to gently knock them out of the frame. If they are glued, never bend or break them. In this case, heat the core well - then it will be easy to disassemble. This can be done on an inverted iron or electric stove, and if the transformer is small, then you can put it on a soldering iron for 15-20 minutes. Do not be afraid for the frame - it will stand.

Step 3

Dip the plates in a special solution available from the radio market or car dealerships. But in some cases, such solutions get rid of the wire insulation, so you need to be careful.

Step 4

If you have a welded transformer, then make cuts along the seam of the electric welding with a hacksaw for metal. If, after sawing the welds, the core coil does not come off, warm up the transformer a little, as described above. The easiest way will be to first pull out one or two W plates, then the rest will be pulled out easier. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a Sh plate to get the rest out.

Step 5

Unwind the primary and secondary windings of the transformer coil. Carefully count the turns so that after replacing the conductive material, you can restore everything exactly. Remember one important point - if you made a winding in two wires, use the principle of "measure seven times, cut once." Make sure the beginning of one conductor is connected to the other. Only then can the transformer be tested.
