Transformer laptops have appeared on the electronics market relatively recently, so not all active users of modern gadgets have yet managed to understand their features. It is worth finding out what advantages and disadvantages transformers have in comparison with conventional laptops, as well as for what purposes they are best suited. What is the difference between a convertible laptop and a regular laptop?

The main feature of a laptop-transformer is its ability to "transform". Such a device can be used both as a regular laptop and as a tablet.

In the first case, the control of the device will be the same as when working on a classic laptop - using the keyboard. If desired, you can connect a mouse to it, thereby turning your laptop into a lightweight version of a desktop PC. And by using the transformation mechanism, the computer can be used as a compact tablet, carrying out control using special elements of the touch screen.

Depending on the transformation mechanism, convertible laptops are divided into three main types:

- classic transformer - the laptop screen rotates vertically around the axis, while the keyboard is a stand;

- slider laptop - has a screen that rotates around the axis, and a folding keyboard, due to which it can be easily converted into a tablet;

- detachable laptop - the laptop display can be easily separated from the keyboard and can be used as a tablet computer.

Pros and cons of a laptop-transformer

So, a laptop-transformer is a two-in-one device: it can be used both for work on a horizontal surface and as a convenient “pocket” computer.

As a rule, convertible laptops have a lightweight body, which is their clear advantage. But since all devices of this class are equipped with a transformation mechanism that has a certain number of fasteners, we can say that they are somewhat inferior to conventional laptops in terms of strength. The fasteners of the transformation mechanism may loosen and break if handled with insufficient care.

In terms of technical parameters, such as performance and functionality, transformers are also quite seriously inferior to classic laptop models. After all, the more compact the computer model, the less opportunities the manufacturer has to make it powerful and multifunctional. So, most transformers have relatively weak video cards and are not able to support modern games.

Having analyzed the pros and cons of convertible laptops, we can draw the following conclusions:

- the transformer will be an excellent choice for users in need of a compact portable device that can be used as a classic desktop PC if necessary;

- it is unreasonable to purchase a transformer for home use only, since less compact devices that can be bought at the same or even less price provide the user with much more options in terms of performance and functionality.
