Step 1
Start by choosing the connector on your TV to which you will connect your video card. It's no secret that there is an analog and digital video signal. For the transmission of the first type, the ports are VGA, S-video and SCART, and for the second - DVI and HDMI. In video cards, you can find all these connectors, except for SCART. Let's discard it at once.
Step 2
In a situation where the purpose of connecting a TV is to watch high definition video, it is most reasonable to use digital channels. Those. it remains to choose between HDMI and DVI ports. The fact is that only new video adapters are equipped with an HDMI port. But there is a special DVI-HDMI digital signal transfer cable.
Step 3
Connect the TV to the computer's video card using the above cable. Note that you can use an HDMI to HDMI cable and a DVI to HDMI adapter. Turn on the TV, open the settings menu and select the desired port as the main source.

Turn on your computer and wait for the operating system to start. Open the control panel. Go to the Appearance and Personalization menu. Select "Connect to an external display".

You will see a window with two screens at the top. Further settings depend on what purpose you are pursuing by connecting the computer to the TV.

If you plan to watch video on the TV screen and at the same time work at the computer, then select "Expand screen". Start the video player and move its window outside the monitor. It should be displayed on the TV screen.

If you want to play video on both screens at the same time, then select "Duplicate these screens". This feature will only work with graphics cards that support dual channel mode.
