Exposure is the time period during which light affects the photographic material or the matrix in the case of digital cameras. The shutter speed is determined by the exposure time (the time during which the shutter was open). Exposure is one of the main parameters in photography, and its duration often affects not only the quality of the pictures, but also the mood or thought that the photographer wanted to convey.
Instructions
Step 1
Read the instructions that came with your camera on how to turn on shutter priority mode. This is the easiest and most convenient mode. Usually it is denoted by the English letter S (from the English phrase Shutter speed). Using this mode, change the exposure time with the control wheel or through the menu. The camera will automatically select the aperture according to the illumination of the object and the sensitivity of the matrix.
Step 2
You can also set the exposure parameters manually. This command, as a rule, denoted by the letter M (translated from English means the word manual) and allows you to set the photographer not only the shutter speed, but also the aperture. Most often, this mode is used in order to solve some specific problems or to bypass the limitations of the camera's exposure metering system.
Step 3
If you are the owner of a compact camera in which the shutter speed mode is not provided, do not be discouraged! Just set it to a scene or scene selection mode. Almost all cameras have similar functions. Some models of cameras can allow you to change the parameters of aperture and shutter speed both at once, without leaving the program mode, denoted by the letter P (translated from English, the word program).
Step 4
Set your camera to fireworks mode and you'll get a fairly slow shutter speed. In this case, it is recommended to mount the camera on a tripod (in order to avoid shaking) and select the appropriate aperture for illumination. This mode is best used for low light photography (hence the name).
Step 5
Do not forget about the relationship between sensitivity, aperture and shutter speed. If these parameters are always taken into account and correspond to each other's modes, then you will certainly get high-quality and interesting photos.
