If you had to choose a boat motor, then you probably came across a situation when in the technical description of two engines, identical in displacement and mass, there were different amounts of horsepower developed by the units. The question is logical: how is the difference in power achieved, and is it possible to increase it on your own without overpaying for horsepower?
Instructions
Step 1
Analyze the possibility of buying a boat motor in a cheaper version and less power, so that you can then independently convert it into a more powerful one. Boosting the base motor with an average performance will save you money and compensate for the difference in power.
Step 2
Inspect your motor for the presence or absence of a throttle travel stop, check the unit specifications. Most often, the petal valves, the carburetor (its jets), the exhaust manifold and the switch are subject to replacement.
Step 3
To more accurately determine the parts that need to be replaced, compare the set of parts for your motor and the unit whose characteristics you want to obtain from the spare parts catalog. This way you can identify the nodes that need improvement.
Step 4
Remove the power limiter (small motors) and change the valve clearances. Another way to increase engine power is to fine-tune the units and parts responsible for the intake and exhaust. Operations to increase the power of the motor are carried out individually for each of its types.
Step 5
Bore the engine carburetor by increasing the diffuser diameter. To do this, first disconnect the atomizer from the carburetor (you will have to drill a brass plug over it), the nozzle tube, throttle and air dampers, the float chamber cover and unscrew the adjusting screws. It will be more convenient to dismantle the jet tube by inserting a wire of a suitable diameter into it. After boring, reinstall the gun, jet tube, and other parts. Close the hole above the sprayer with a plug made from a suitable screw and locknut.
Step 6
Seek the assistance of a service technician if you are having difficulty making structural changes to the engine. This will save you time and hassle. Changing the motor power on your own can be a costly process.
