A logo is a carefully thought-out sign that people associate with a particular company. Often it is he who is the guarantor that the new product released by the company will be great. Therefore, firms rarely change their logo, and if they do, then for good reasons. An example of this was the change of the icon at Microsoft.
Microsoft has decided to change the logo that has become familiar to everyone. This news attracted great attention, because the last time such a step was made exactly 25 years ago - back in 1987.
Now, instead of the traditional multi-colored flag next to the name of the company, there will be a square consisting of four tiles of orange, green, yellow and blue colors. And the name itself is written in the Segoe font, which will be used in the new version of the Windows 8 operating system.
According to Jeff Hanse, director of brand strategy for Microsoft, such a fundamental change reflects a "new era" in the company. This year should be a time of change for the company. Today, the release of new versions of all the most popular Microsoft products is already being prepared, so the logo change is a visual reflection of this launch.
In particular, a fundamentally new version of the Windows 8 operating system will be released in the fall with a redesigned Metro user interface, which is based on simple typography and shapes. This reflects the design of the new logo that Microsoft decided to go back to basics with - it looks a lot like the icon for Windows 1.0 released in 1985.
The new logo was created by the American branding agency Pentagram. At the same time, they tried to make it as simple as possible and preserve the recognizability of the sign, for which they left the color scheme traditional for Microsoft.
The company is now starting to gradually introduce the new mark everywhere. It has already appeared on the corporate website (microsoft.com) and in three Microsoft retail stores located in Seattle, Boston and Bellevue. And in the next few months, the company's management plans to introduce the square logo on a global scale.
