Recently, so-called mobile antiviruses have been actively advertised. Today, there are already at least eight different programs of this kind. There are paid ones from leading manufacturers of computer antiviruses, and there are free ones. What do such programs protect against? And are they needed on a smartphone at all?

Step 1
First, let's figure out where an ordinary smartphone user faces a viral threat. Many do not even admit the idea that there are viruses for a smartphone, which is essentially just a powerful phone. This is a false delusion. A smartphone contains a lot of information that could be needed by cybercriminals: your contacts, phone numbers, card numbers, passwords for Internet services. Very often, cybercriminals also hunt for money from your phone account.
Many different tricks are used, the main of which is sending paid SMS to the number the attacker needs. They entrust this work to programs running on Android. Google checks antivirus applications that are located in the official Google Play store. But, first of all, you can't check everything. And secondly, there are apps that pretend to be fair until they land on your smartphone. Subsequently, they turn out to be spies stealing your data, or crooks stealing your money.

Mobile antiviruses are designed primarily to restrict you from such shape-shifting applications. Moreover, the antivirus even checks programs that you installed through Google Play. If in doubt, it will warn you about the dangers of using the application or even block its activity.
The second function of mobile antiviruses is to check files downloaded via the Internet. It is through the browser that the most viruses and spyware crawl through.

Modern mobile antiviruses are even capable of filtering out unwanted calls and SMS from numbers that are questionable or unwanted for you. And many of these programs are able to perform service functions for maintaining your smartphone: clearing the cache of browsers and other programs, analyzing and clearing memory, and so on.
