Modern technology does not stop developing, and today, digital entertainment lovers have the opportunity to connect a computer via Wi-Fi to a TV. This allows you to view movies, pictures and various documents stored on your PC on the TV screen.

Wi-Fi connection via DLNA protocol

To pair a TV and a computer, both devices must be connected to the same wireless network (while the TV must support the Smart-TV function, that is, the ability to connect to the Internet). At home, routers or routers are usually used for this. Be sure to make sure that the device "distributes" Wi-Fi, and the connected PC opens access to the worldwide network.

Turn on your TV and go to the network settings menu. Set a wireless Internet connection as the main one and check it for working capacity. Now start setting up a special DLNA server on your computer, which will provide the connected devices with shared access to the folders stored in the system. Select the "Network" section in Windows Explorer and make sure the current network is marked as "Home" (or "Private").

Activate the desired feature by enabling the Network Discovery and File Sharing option. Now custom folders "Videos", "Pictures", "Music" and "Documents" (by default) will be available for devices connected over the network (you can also disable and enable access to a particular folder on the "Access" tab through the "Properties ").

Go to the shared folder on the TV. Depending on the device model, this is done through the SmartShare section or "Home network", etc. Opening the appropriate folder should display the same content as on your computer. In addition, some TV manufacturers offer special programs to make it easier to access, such as Sony's Homestream.

Additional connection methods

There is an alternative way to connect your computer to the TV via Wi-Fi, which is to use WiDi / Miracast technology. Its essence is to duplicate the PC screen on the TV, and, thus, films and other media files will be broadcast after they are launched on the computer. This feature is not supported by every TV, so you should first read the instructions that came with the device.

Download and install a free Windows program called Intel Wireless Display. Launch the app and activate the broadcast. After that, pair with the TV by going to the settings of the latter and selecting the Miracast / Intel WiDi section depending on the model. If the connection is successful (make sure you have an active Wi-Fi connection first), you can run media files on your computer and view them on your TV.
