A monitor is a device designed to present information in graphical or textual form. Today, it is most often used to output information from a computer. Screen size is one of the main characteristics of this device, which is even present in the model name and is measured in inches. In order to reduce the designation to one number, the diagonal measurement of the screen was chosen.

Measure the distance between the opposite corners of the monitor screen - this is the diagonal. You need to measure the distance not from the diagonal of the case, but between the corners of the screen, that is, the visible surface of the matrix of a liquid crystal (LCD) monitor or a picture tube of a monitor using a cathode ray tube (CRT). There is no need to search for a measuring tool with graduations in inches for this operation, since the result obtained can be easily converted from centimeters to inches.
Step 2
Divide the diagonal of the monitor measured in centimeters by a factor of 2.54 to convert it to inches - this is the ratio that has been established since 1958 in Great Britain and the United States, using non-metric systems of measures.

By manual measurement, you will get the actually visible diagonal of the screen, but if you need to know the passport value of this parameter, then keep in mind that it may not coincide with the measured one. The difference may arise due to the fact that some part of the screen is hidden by the case in which the matrix or kinescope is installed. You can find out the passport value in the factory description from the set of accompanying documents for the purchased monitor, from the markings on its body or from the full model name. For example, in the name Philips 220WS, the first two digits (22) indicate the size of the diagonal in inches. You can see the full name both on the case of the device itself or on the packaging box, and in the properties of the screen in the operating system.
Step 4
If you become aware of the size of a picture tube or a monitor matrix in inches, then if you need to convert it to centimeters, multiply this number by a factor of 2.54. But you can skip the calculations, but use the unit converter built into the Google search engine.
