The diagonal of a TV is usually measured in inches and is indicated in the specification. However, if you purchased it from someone, for example, the exact size may not be known. In fact, this is not a problem, as it is very easy to make the corresponding measurement.

It is necessary

tape measure or ruler, TV, sheet of paper and pen for calculations

Instructions

Step 1

In order to measure the diagonal of a TV, first of all you need a tape measure or a meter of sufficient length.

Step 2

Stretch a tape measure from the top right to the bottom left of the screen (screen only, TV cabinet not included). Make sure that the tape is tight along its entire length. If there is no tape measure, take a thread, pull it along the diagonal of the TV, cut or mark the other end. Now measure the length of the thread itself with a ruler.

Step 3

Take a pen, paper and write down the measured result in centimeters.

Step 4

Perform simple calculations. Convert centimeters to inches. To do this, keep in mind that one inch equals 2.54 centimeters. Therefore, the result obtained and recorded in centimeters must be divided by 2.54. Use a calculator if calculating is difficult.

Step 5

If the length of the tape / meter is not enough to cover the entire diagonal, you can calculate the result separately on the sides. To do this, measure the width and height of your screen.

Step 6

Perform simple calculations. Square both numbers (the length and width of the screen) and then add them (for example, you got the numbers 3 and 2, then the squares of these numbers are 9 and 4, respectively, and the sum of the squares is 13, that is, 9 + 4). Use the calculator's functions if you are afraid to make a mistake.

Step 7

Now the resulting number must be converted to inches (that is, divided by 2.54). Divide.

Step 8

The easiest way to find out the diagonal of your TV is to see what is written on the case of the TV itself. But here you need to be careful - very often manufacturers indicate not the diagonal of the screen itself, but the distance from the top to the bottom corner of the case. You can also find such information in the passport of your home appliances, of course, if it has been preserved. Typically, the diagonal size information is printed on the cover.
