A shredder is a device designed to shred confidential documents. Shredders are used not only in government and financial organizations, but also in small companies that care about their safety. Despite the apparent simplicity of the device, choosing the right shredder is a rather difficult task. When buying it, you need to pay attention to the following parameters.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you need to decide on the degree of secrecy of the shredder. The higher this indicator, the more thoroughly the device destroys paper:
- I level of secrecy is intended for the destruction of open correspondence, the width of the stripes - 12 mm, the length - any;
- II level of secrecy is used to destroy internal and confidential correspondence, such a device will cut the document into strips no more than 6 mm wide and up to 800 mm2 in size;
- III level of secrecy is used to destroy confidential documents, as a result you will receive fragments 3 mm wide and 80 mm long;
- The IV level of secrecy is suitable for the elimination of classified documents, the document will be shredded into fragments of 2x15 mm in size;
- V level of secrecy is intended for the destruction of top secret documents, such devices shred paper into strips of 0.8x12mm;
- The VI level of secrecy is used for the destruction of documents of particular importance, the size of the stripes is 0.8x6mm.
Step 2
There are two types of shredders, depending on the cutting technology: cross cut devices and parallel cut devices. In the first case, the shredder cuts documents into small pieces, which provides a higher degree of security compared to parallel cutting, which results in stripes.
Step 3
The shredder's performance determines the amount of paper that it can destroy per unit of time. Try to estimate the amount of paper to be destroyed as accurately as possible - this will save you time and money that would otherwise have to be spent on buying a more powerful device. In addition, the power of the device's motor determines whether it can destroy other materials, for example, staples from a stapler (almost any device can destroy them). However, paper clips can cause problems and break a conventional device - more powerful models are needed to recycle them.
Step 4
The width of the receiving part, the volume of the container, the noise level - all these characteristics are less significant. But at the same time, they need to be given attention. The take-up width affects the size of documents that the device can shred. The volume of the container is proportional to its performance; in most cases, the manufacturer takes everything into account in advance.
