IPS is a technology for the production of matrices for LCD monitors, and therefore it is incorrect to compare these concepts. The IPS matrix can be a component of a liquid crystal LCD monitor. Today, the technology is increasingly used in the manufacture of monitors.

Color saturation

Compared to other matrices on the market, IPS has a number of clear advantages. Unlike TN-TFT technology previously used in TVs and monitors, IPS have the ability to transmit more saturated colors in RGB gamut with 8-bit channels. The TN matrix commonly used in LCD monitors actually produces 6 bits per channel, which does not provide sufficient image depth. IPS TVs provide deeper blacks and stronger whites.

These displays are ideal for watching videos and working with photos.

Viewing angle

At the same time, devices with this matrix have a wider viewing angle without distortion of the image and its color. Matrices based on AMOLED, TN + Film and Super LCD have similar indicators, however, the IPS viewing angle is approximately 178 degrees horizontally and vertically, which is currently the maximum for most screens.

Also, IPS screen models use improved lamps and backlighting elements, which give higher brightness and saturation than models with a TN matrix. In TVs with IPS, manufacturers manage to organize several digital and analog inputs, realize wider options for adjusting the device in height, tilt, and, if necessary, make a portrait display mode. Such matrices have wider picture scaling possibilities.

And despite the fact that the listed parameters do not directly depend on the imaging technology, almost all IPS TVs and monitors have these capabilities, unlike models with TN.

disadvantages

However, IPSs have a number of disadvantages. So, the response time of the screen to change the picture is much higher than that of TN matrices, which sometimes causes an overlay effect. Despite the fact that this problem is being actively solved by monitor manufacturers, the most inexpensive TV models have this drawback. Another important aspect is the cost of IPS-based LCDs - most IPS models are significantly more expensive than TN TVs due to the fact that IPS technology is relatively new and more expensive. TN-TFT TVs have been used in the electronics market for a long time and launched into mass production, and therefore can be installed on budget electronics intended for the widest audience of consumers. It should also be noted that IPS TVs consume more power.
