If the solar-powered clock stops working, there may be several reasons for this and, accordingly, several options for solving this problem. There are two main options: either the charging has sat down, or the battery is out of order.
Determine the reason
A solar cell watch includes a conventional movement, a battery, a solar cell, and a clock charging control circuit. If charging comes to an end, the watch can go into economy mode, signal a low battery level. If the watch is electronic, then the numbers may become paler, and then all the images from the display will disappear altogether.
If it's just that the watch has used up all its charge, you just need to recharge it.
Solar charging rules
The charging time of the watch depends on the light intensity. You can charge your watch from sunlight - just place it in front of a window if the day is sunny. No shadow should obscure the light-sensitive elements, but also make sure that the watch does not overheat - the summer sun can be hot. This is the most efficient, fastest and most energy efficient way.
You can also charge the solar battery from artificial lighting: from an incandescent lamp or fluorescent lamp. In this case, you should also remember about the temperature: incandescent lamps heat up quite strongly, so do not bring the watch closer than 60 cm to the lamp. The maximum heating of the watch should not exceed 600 C. It should be noted that this charging method will take a lot of time.
Fluorescent lamps are more convenient in this regard. They heat up significantly less, so watch manufacturers even recommend charging the watch at a distance of about 5 cm from the lamp. In this case, it is advisable to keep the watch closer to the middle of the lamp, where the temperature is lower.
Sometimes it is necessary to disassemble the watch
If the watch is very badly discharged, charging from solar panels may not help - for this, they provide too little current. Disassemble the watch and charge the battery directly. Or replace it with a new one. Doing it yourself is risky, as it can damage your watch. It is better to consult a specialist.
If the battery is out of order, replace it. When buying a solar-powered watch, you need to be prepared for the fact that this mechanism is also not eternal. And if everything is in order with the solar panels themselves, the shelf life of the battery will still end sooner or later. This period is different for different watches: some work less than two years, others more than four.
Prevention
The amount of time the battery will last for a while depends on the ambient temperature, the time of occasional recharges on the hand, and the freshness of the battery. On average, the watch can work without recharging for about six months. The lifespan of a lithium-ion battery also depends on the operating conditions as well as on its quality.
If you plan to leave your watch in a nightstand or other dark place, turn on Power Saving Mode, if your watch has one. This will use up the battery power to a minimum.
