A sheet jammed in the printer will stop printing. If pulled out incorrectly, it can damage the parts of the device. That is why you should know how to act in such a situation.
Instructions
Step 1
Press the button to turn off the printer. If not, unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. In most cases, it solves the problem. The printer then clears the paper by itself when turned off or on again.
Step 2
If this does not happen, de-energize the printing device again. Models equipped with paper jam sensors will be able to tell you the error number. After reviewing the user manual, use this number to find out exactly where the sheet is located.
Step 3
Remove the lower paper tray from the machine and open the front and back covers of the printer. On some models, you can open the back cover only by unscrewing a few screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 4
If the printer is laser, remove the cartridge. Check if the printhead is in the service position if you have an inkjet printer. Otherwise, slide it to the right yourself.
Step 5
Look closely at the paper path. If you see a sheet that is stuck, grasp it with both hands and gently pull it towards you so as not to tear. This should be done in the direction of movement of the paper when printing. You can find out more about the design of your printer by referring to the manufacturer's documentation.
Step 6
If the paper is wrinkled in the direction of travel, try to remove the center of the paper from under the clamp. This will reduce the pressure on the sheet and make it easier for you to reach it. Make sure all pieces of paper have been removed from the printer.
Step 7
A torn sheet or its fragments can also be removed by rotating the paper passage roller. This should be done exclusively in the direction of movement of the sheet. If you cannot remove the paper, contact a professional. Do not attempt to disassemble the printer yourself as this may damage it or void the warranty.
Step 8
After completing all operations, replace the cartridge, paper tray and close all covers. Then turn on the printer for normal operation.
