Step 1
To connect your VCR to your computer, you need a video editing card or TV tuner. The cheapest devices from this category cost less than $ 50, but to get a better result, it would be better not to skimp and purchase a tuner with hardware stream encoding in MPEG2.
Step 2
When purchasing, make sure that the tuner or video editing card has composite or component inputs (even better - S-Video).
Step 3
Connect the video signal from the VCR output connector (video signal only) to the input connector of the tuner or video editing card. An adapter may be required, but this type of adapter is readily available in any tent.
Step 4
Connect the cable from the audio signal of the VCR to the input of your sound card. This requires an RCA-minijack adapter.
Step 5
Install a video editing program such as VirtualDub. Configure your tuner (or video editing card) as the video input signal, and your sound card input as the audio signal. Set video encoding parameters and save your movies in digital format.
