A home theater system consists of an AV receiver connected to speakers and a TV. Additionally, there are DVD and Blu-Ray players and VCRs. All components are connected to the receiver, which controls the equipment and supplies power to the speakers. A separate cable is required to connect the TV. The cable you choose depends on the connections available on your home theater receiver and TV, which may be standard composite, RGB, S-video, or HDMI (High Definition Media Interface).

It is necessary

  • - cable for connecting the receiver to the TV;
  • - network filter.

Instructions

Step 1

Check which connectors are available on the back of your home theater receiver and TV. Purchase the appropriate cable.

Step 2

Connect the yellow plug on one end of the composite cable to the OUT jack of the receiver and the same colored plug on the other end to the IN jack of the TV.

Step 3

Connect the S-Video cable to the OUT jack on the receiver and to the same IN jack on the TV.

Step 4

Connect the RGB cable by inserting the red, green and blue plugs into the corresponding OUT jacks on the receiver and IN on the TV.

Step 5

Plug the HDMI cable into the OUT jack of the receiver and the IN jack of the TV. HDMI provides a good link for digital video signals when connected to an HDTV.

Step 6

Place the front left and right speakers on either side of the TV, the center speaker above or below the TV, and the rear speakers behind, left and right of the main viewing area, angled inward about 45 degrees.

Step 7

Pull up on the black and red covers on the back of the receiver and speakers to expose the wire holes. Connect the red wire to the red cap and the other wire to the black cap.

Step 8

Connect the cable from the subwoofer to the receiver's OUT jack and to the input jack on the subwoofer itself.

Step 9

Add a DVD or Blu-ray player to your system by connecting the color-coded AV cables to the appropriate connectors on the rear of the player and to the dedicated connectors on the receiver.

Step 10

Connect an audio device such as a CD player by inserting the white and red plugs of the stereo cable into the left and right outputs on the CD player. Plug the other end with plugs into the dedicated jacks on the receiver.

Step 11

Plug the electrical cords of all components into the surge protector, then plug it into a power outlet.
