The Finnish company Nokia at a presentation held in early September in New York, presented two new models of smartphones from the Lumia series. One of the most interesting features of the new devices is their wireless charging.

For many years Nokia has been one of the recognized leaders in the mobile phone market. However, in recent years, it has been significantly supplanted by its Asian competitors, and a number of unsuccessful marketing decisions have significantly complicated the company's already difficult situation.

The appearance of two smartphones of the new series - Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 - is intended to correct this situation. When creating these models, the company chose the new Windows Phone 8 as the operating system. Obviously, this decision was dictated by the fact that it was very difficult to compete with the manufacturers of products based on the widespread Android operating system.

It is worth noting that the users greeted the previous models of the series rather coolly, so the company tried to significantly improve the new gadgets. They have more powerful processors, bigger screens, better cameras. But the main highlight of these models is their charging: the manufacturer has provided for both traditional recharging via a power cord and using a special induction device.

Induction charging technology is not a Nokia invention and has already been used by the bankrupt Palm company. But at the moment there are no other similar devices on the market, which makes Nokia the leader in this area. The Lumia 920 is charged using a Qi-standard induction device, just slightly smaller than the smartphone itself. To charge, you just need to put your smartphone on the charger plugged into an outlet and leave it on for a few hours. The cheaper Lumia 820 is charged using dedicated removable back panels.

The ability to do without a traditional cord makes using your smartphone more convenient. At the same time, the presence of two charging options at once allows you to use induction charging at home, recharging your smartphone at night, and a conventional charger, as a more compact one, can be taken with you on trips. Since the induction device uses the world Qi standard, it will be possible in the future to recharge Nokia smartphones from chargers from other manufacturers.
