Reprogramming a cartridge's chipset is the most difficult part of the refilling process, even if you have special hardware to reflash them.

Necessary

  • - programmer;
  • - PonyProg2000;
  • - computer.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase a special cartridge programmer. Find the firmware and download the special program PonyProg2000. Remove the chip from your cartridge and carefully read its pinout. Connect the programmer to the chipset according to the marking. Connect it to your computer. Remember the connection port - you will need this information later when configuring the program.

Step 2

Install the downloaded program PonyProg2000 on your computer and run it. Apply I2C Bus 8bit eeprom and 24XX Auto in the setup windows, then go to Setup-Interface Setup. Here you need to set the parameters as follows: a checkmark for Serial, the second for COM1 or any other port through which the programmer is connected.

Step 3

Specify SL Prog API in the drop-down menu on the left. Click on Probe, then close the windows by clicking the "OK" buttons. The settings may vary with different programming device models.

Step 4

Go to Setup-Calibration and start the calibration process in the dialog box that appears. Wait for the process to finish. Open the downloaded firmware program using the "File" menu. Change the serial number so that you do not download another program for flashing this cartridge in the future.

Step 5

To do this, go to the Edit menu and select the Edit Buffer Enabled action. Change the value of one or more bytes using the Edit Buffer to your liking. Click OK. The values to be changed depend on the model of the cartridge being flashed and the hardware you are using.

Step 6

Click on the programming icon in the upper toolbar and in the dialog box that appears, click "OK". Wait for the overwrite to finish, after which you can insert the cartridge into the printer and print a test page.
