On September 2, Samsung presented its new smartphone Samsung Ativ S. Its main feature was that it is the first officially announced smartphone on the new Windows Phone 8 operating system.
The vast majority of smartphones currently released run on Google's Android operating system. Samsung Ativ S became the first device in this series on the new Windows Phone 8, the development of which was recently completed by Microsoft. Interestingly, Samsung is several days ahead of its longtime rival Nokia, which has also released its own line of smartphones based on this operating system.
At the insistence of Microsoft, at the presentation, it was forbidden to photograph the new smartphone while it was on, so that it was impossible to see in detail the features of the interface of the new OS. The need for such secrecy can only be explained by the desire to stir up interest in the new operating system. The previous version of Windows Phone 7 lost to Android OS in all respects, so Microsoft is very hopeful that Windows Phone 8 will be able to fix the situation. Time will tell whether the new OS will succeed in squeezing Android.
Judging by the declared technical characteristics, the smartphone will be one of the leaders in the mobile device market. It has a larger HD display of 4.8 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels: on the one hand, this is good, but a larger device is more difficult to operate with one hand. The back cover was made a little rough, there are no fingerprints on it. The device has a dual-core processor Qualcomm 1.5 GHz, two cameras - the main one at 8 Mp and the front one at 1, 9 Mp, built-in memory in 16 and 32 GB versions, 1 GB of RAM. Full HD video recording is supported.
It is not yet possible to assess the convenience of using the new smartphone, you will have to wait until Samsung and Microsoft allow you to get to know it better. The exact price of the new gadget has not yet been announced, it is not on sale yet. However, some European online retailers are already starting to accept pre-orders for it. In particular, the Dutch shop PDAshop offers to order Samsung Ativ S with 16 GB of memory for 549 €.
