The concept of "headset" originated in the middle of the last century. With the development of science and, accordingly, the means of communication, its meaning gradually expanded. Today, what a headset is, cannot be told in a nutshell.
Telephone, headset (or simply) headsets are called devices, which are structures consisting of mechanically combined headphones (headphones) and microphones. Their purpose is to use them in various communication systems. The main features of the headsets are the ability to attach them to the human body (on the head or on clothing), which allows hands-free communication.
The useful properties of headsets include the ability to provide increased hearing protection from extraneous noise. This is especially important when applied in areas of activity where the lives of people (railway and air traffic controllers, aircraft pilots, emergency and rescue service operators) can depend on the accuracy of the operator's work.
The connection method distinguishes between wired and wireless headsets. The first of them have electrical contact with communication equipment. Due to the possibility of shielding the wires through which the connection is made, they are more protected from interference. Also, their cost is quite low. Wireless headsets use a radio channel (usually DECT or Bluetooth) to communicate with the main equipment. Due to the absence of wires, the operator has great freedom of movement.
Headsets are also distinguished by the method of attachment (ear, head and head, built into the helmet), by the number of audio channels (mono and stereo), by the method of mounting the microphone (built-in, remote, not fixed, with a mechanical sound conduit). Headsets for special applications (for example, waterproof) are distinguished into a separate category.
Headsets date back to the Second World War. They were used by tank crews, combat aircraft pilots, and radio operators on ships. Today, there are a huge number of types and types of these devices used in various fields of activity.
