A multimedia projector is an accessory that is gradually becoming indispensable in everyday life, but the Russian buyer is still little aware of what criteria should be used to choose this device. Learning to navigate a variety of models is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Instructions

Step 1

When choosing a multimedia projector, first of all, proceed from the tasks assigned to it. What is the purpose of the purchase? Will you watch movies, give lectures to students, or maybe broadcast football matches?

Step 2

All existing projectors are classified according to their purpose. They can be divided into three groups: Home Cinema, for the entertainment industry, and for business and education. The demand for 3D projectors is also growing in the film industry. They also produce stereoscopic projectors for home theaters, but this is an extremely expensive pleasure available to very few.

Step 3

The first category projectors - Home Cinema - are designed, as the name implies, for home entertainment: watching movies and sports broadcasts. These are massive devices weighing up to 10 kilograms with high-quality filling that allows displaying dynamic content. Entertainment projectors are devices that are installed in bars, cafes, restaurants. The highest demands are made on them. As for the latter category, it includes inexpensive transportable models that are not suitable for watching high-quality video. Such projectors are convenient for presentations, lessons, lectures.

Step 4

Focus on key technical characteristics, such as: resolution, physical format of the matrix, brightness (luminous flux), presence or absence of network interfaces.

Step 5

Brightness is measured in lumens (lm). For viewing training materials and presentations, a power of 2000 lumens is quite enough. For home theater, and especially for playing BluRay quality video, you need at least 2800 lumens. Movies in FullHD format will require all 3000. One more nuance: the larger the diagonal of the projected image, the brighter the luminous flux should be.

Step 6

The choice of resolution should depend on the resolution of the information source - computer, DVD-player, TV. For business tasks, 1024x768 is enough, for watching HD movies - 1280x720, for BluRay - 1920x1080.

Step 7

An important aspect is the manufacturing technology of the matrix block of a multimedia projector. There are three methods in total: transmissive liquid crystals (3LCD), reflective liquid crystals (LCOS, SXRD, D-ILA) and micromirrors (DLP). The first two are essentially equal (but actively compete in the market), but the last, DLP, has a significant drawback: projectors created using this technology can create flickering when watching video.
