Instructions

Step 1

Determine the type of microphone that you intend to connect to your computer. It can be dynamic or capacitor. This determines how the microphone connector will be connected to the sound card.

Step 2

Connect the dynamic microphone connector directly to the microphone input of your sound card. However, this method can introduce some noise, which can be reduced by using the mixer microphone input or preamp. They, in turn, are connected with the output to the line input of the sound card.

Step 3

Check for phantom power on your preamp or mixing console. If there is one, then the connector of the condenser microphone is connected to it, which needs additional power. After that, the audio signal is fed to the line-in of the sound card. If the latter has phantom power, then the microphone can be connected directly.

Step 4

Plug the USB microphone directly into your computer via the USB bus. This device is equipped with everything necessary for operation and does not require additional adapters.

Step 5

Check if the microphone is connected to the computer. If the connector was inserted correctly, the operating system will display a corresponding message about finding a new device. In this case, it is necessary to configure the operation of the microphone. Click on the "Start" menu at the bottom left of your desktop and select the "Control Panel" section.

Step 6

Find the "Sound and Audio Devices" icon and double-click on it with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, go to the "Speech" tab and click on the "Volume" button. Go to the menu "Options" - "Properties" and put a check mark next to the inscription "Microphone". After that, go to the "Test" section and blow into the microphone, if the indicator has changed position, it means that the connector is connected correctly.
