An inseparable quality of a good e-book is E-Ink technology, or electronic ink, which makes reading from a screen almost indistinguishable from reading a regular paper book. But devices using this technology are more expensive, so it is rather difficult to come to a compromise and choose a high-quality, but inexpensive book.
Screen type
When choosing an e-book, first of all, pay attention to the type of screen, it is he who determines how convenient it will be to read. Most readers prefer E-Ink technology - this electronic ink makes the screen of the device look like a page of a paper book with a printed font, while the screen is not illuminated from the inside, which reduces the contrast of the image, makes reading easier, especially long-term, as it does not strain the eyes. In addition, this technology allows the book to work without a charge for a very long time, even active readers may not charge the device for several weeks. One of the significant drawbacks of such a book is the lack of backlighting, which makes it impossible to read it in the dark.
Some books with E-Ink technology have external illumination, which is directed not at the person's eyes, but at the page - like a flashlight for a regular book.
Electronic books with an LCD screen can display color images, play videos, the font in them is more contrasting, but reading more often gets the eyes tired, as well as reading from a computer monitor or phone. Such books respond quickly to page turning (E-Ink makes the device work slow), but they run out faster.
If you are an avid reader and spend several hours a day reading, then choose E-Ink technology. If you need a more multifunctional device, then a book with an LCD screen will do.
Control method
There are books with traditional buttons or touch devices. Touchscreens are more expensive, so if you want to focus on quality and low price, then choose an e-book with convenient buttons for turning pages. Hold the device in your hands to understand how convenient it is to press the buttons - preferably, they are located on the side of the screen, right under your fingers.
Touch screens of books are more fragile, because of the constant touch of fingers, they become dirty faster, and since most often during reading you only have to turn pages, the use of such technology is not always justified. On the other hand, many people find it more convenient to use the touchscreen, especially if they not only read, but also watch photos or movies.
Other functions
If you want to buy a good but inexpensive e-reader, look for devices without additional features. For example, if you do not need Internet access (and it is very difficult with a book that has electronic ink), then it is better to refuse this function. It is also undesirable to choose devices with a player, with the ability to play videos or play. Consider only your needs - carefully read the list of formats that the book supports, take an interest in the availability of dictionaries if you read in foreign languages, or the ability to increase the font to very large if you suffer from farsightedness.
