Step 1
First, choose a Wi-Fi router that works with your computers. Pay attention to the type of its internet connection. It can be done over WAN or DSL connectors. Connect the purchased equipment to the mains and turn it on.

Now connect the ISP cable to the WAN (DSL) port. Connect desktop computers to free Ethernet (LAN) connectors. Include one of them. Launch your internet browser. Enter the IP address of your router in the url field of your browser and press the Enter key.

A window will open containing fields for entering the login and password to access the router. Find these values in the instructions for your network equipment and enter them. Some models of routers offer to specify new values of username and password immediately after entering the settings menu. Follow this procedure.

If this function is not provided by the firmware of the equipment, then open the Security menu. Go to the "Access settings" menu and set new values for the username and password. It is recommended to change both parameters, because it is much more difficult to find a login-password pair than just a password.
Step 5
Be sure to write down the new data on a separate sheet of paper or in a file. If you have forgotten the values of the username and password, then click the Reset button. This will reset all Wi-Fi settings of the router. In this case, you will have to completely reconfigure the hardware.

When setting up your wireless access point, be sure to select the highest quality security type (WPA or WPA2). Set a strong password to access the network. If your router supports covert broadcasting, enable it. This will hide the SSID of the access point, which will prevent hacking attempts. Remember that in order to access the router via a Wi-Fi channel, you must first connect to its wireless network. That is why it must be carefully protected.
