From December 1, 2013 the "law on the abolition of mobile slavery" was passed. From that day on, it became possible to change the mobile operator while maintaining your number. Many people have dreamed of this opportunity for years. Mobile operators often took advantage of the fact that subscribers did not want to part with their numbers and imposed various services on them, made unfavorable changes to tariff plans, etc.

According to the new law, in order to change the mobile operator, keeping your number, you just need to come to the office of the new operator and write a corresponding statement. The cost of this service may vary, but should not exceed 100 rubles. In this case, you must have a passport with you. If the number is issued to another person, you will also have to take with you a notarized power of attorney from him. In addition, you will immediately need to choose a tariff plan, get a temporary SIM card and conclude an agreement.

Number transfer can be carried out only if the subscriber has no debts. In addition, the mobile number must not be blocked. You can transfer only a federal number and only within the framework of one subject of the federation. It should be borne in mind that during the transfer process, there may be interruptions in communication, the Internet, as well as in sending and receiving SMS.

The "Law on the Abolition of Mobile Slavery" provides for a transitional period that will last until April 15, 2014. This time is given to operators to test the new system. During the transition period, operators do not bear any responsibility for the timing of the transfer of the number. After April 15, the number transfer period for individuals cannot exceed 8 days, and for legal entities - 29 days. Currently, operators are immediately proposing to extend these terms, since face some difficulties. Often they blame each other for the lack of technical portability.

Experts recommend refraining from switching to a new operator until April 15, since the likelihood of various communication problems is high. After this date, the operators will be required to transfer the subscriber to someone else's network within the specified period. In the event of a violation, they will have to provide communication services absolutely free of charge until they solve the problem.
