Everyone knows that the location can be determined through Google and Yandex-maps, having mobile Internet or wi-fi. However, the mobile Internet is too expensive for many if you have to pay for wi-fi. For me, this was no exception, but I still wanted to navigate the city. And not only in the city, but also in the forest, where in some places there is no coverage, there is no connection, but where I pick mushrooms from time to time. I hesitated between buying a GPS navigator and a smartphone, but I chose the latter, since the devices were the same for the price, and I didn't want to exclude navigation via mobile Internet or wi-fi either.

It is necessary

Smartphone with GPS, A-GPS version of Android 4.2

Instructions

Step 1

So, first you need to turn on the location determination by GPS satellites on your smartphone and tick the "By network coordinates" checkbox.

Step 2

Now you need to conduct a GPS test of the device. To do this, download the program from PlayMarket, I liked the simplest GPSfix.

Step 3

Before you start testing GPS, you need to remember a few conditions:

a) Go outside (preferably an open area like a stadium or park).

b) Try to stay in one place for 15 minutes, do not move along the street, do not get into transport, do not go to shops or crossings - this is the time needed to warm up the system, called "cold start". Then, when the navigator program is turned on, it will be possible to move, move by car (but not by trolleybus - it can interrupt the satellite signal).

Click Start fixing or a special icon in the form of a circle and see the time that the program will spend on detecting satellites. Up to 12 satellites may appear (in high terrain), but usually 5-6, and after the time has elapsed, coordinates like lon 44 ° 57'49.0 "N, lat 34 ° 06'20.0" E and azimuth will appear. And if indoors, it will write No Fix - not fixed.

Step 4

Now we need offline maps for the navigator program. Such maps can be downloaded and used for free in such programs: YandexMaps, Be-on-Road, MapsFactor, the last two - in 3D versions. Maybe there are others, but it was only possible to download and apply maps in them. GoogleMaps app for Android 4.2 won't download at all.

As for Yandex maps, I would like to note that only large cities are available for download, and this is irrelevant for the forest.

Step 5

It is very important to set the "Settings-Profiles" of the transport - Pedestrian in the settings of the MapsFactor program, otherwise it is easy to get lost when setting the route. There is a voice-over of the route. The disadvantage is that it is very difficult to choose the point of departure and destination by Address, you have to click on the map at random.
