Step 1
Understand how your navigator works. A receiver built into it receives the satellite signal, decodes it and locates the device relative to the received coordinate system. The GPS receiver works almost everywhere, except in places where there are shielding obstacles such as caves or massive buildings. With a limited view, the satellite signal may be weak, which will take more time to determine the position.
Step 2
Take the navigator in your hand with the antenna pointing up. Some device models have an antenna that can rotate regardless of the position of the entire device; in this case, it is enough to turn up only the antenna itself.
Step 3
Switch on the device. A special display for searching for satellites will appear on the screen. After a while, the navigator will begin to receive data, which will be reflected on the screen. This setup usually takes 1-3 minutes. Positioning is faster in open areas.
Step 4
Explore the interface of your navigator model. It is more convenient to do this by checking the position of the controls with the instructions for the device. Some buttons have several functions, your task is to remember the main ones. Over time, the information will be deposited in your memory, and referring to the documentation will become unnecessary.

Adjust the type of information displayed in the OSD. Specific settings depend on the model of the GPS navigator and are described in detail in the technical documentation for the device. The main thing is to set up the time zone, select the coordinate system and set the distance unit, for example, kilometers.

During the passage of the route, periodically review the current data shown on the display, the position of the device, the coordinates of the point of your location, the trajectory of the distance traveled.
Step 7
To store the coordinates of any point, press and hold the corresponding button for a few seconds. By default, the GPS navigator saves the route to be followed. It is possible to turn on the mode of the return trip, which will indicate the route traveled. In general, handling the device is somewhat similar to working with a pocket personal computer.
