The sealed, maintenance-free Varta battery, like all other batteries, requires periodic recharging. It is necessary to check its condition and charge it 1-2 times a year. The battery needs special attention before the onset of cold weather.

Maintenance-free Varta battery, charger
Instructions
Step 1
Check the condition of the Varta maintenance-free battery. Typically, in all maintenance-free batteries, it is impossible to measure the electrolyte density in each cell. Therefore, measure the voltage with a voltmeter, or determine the state of charge by the color of the built-in indicator, which is located on the top wall of the case for similar devices.
Step 2
A fully charged battery has a green indicator. As the discharge proceeds, the color darkens, down to black. The latter indicates the need for charging. If the indicator is light yellow, it means that the electrolyte level is inadmissibly low. Or add distilled water or change the battery. It is impossible to charge the battery in this state and to light it from another device.
Step 3
Disconnect all energy-consuming appliances on the vehicle. Measure the voltage at the battery terminals with a voltmeter. If the voltage is less than 12.2 V, the battery is completely discharged; if from 12, 2 to 12, 4 V - partially.
Step 4
To charge the battery, remove it from the vehicle.
Step 5
Charge the maintenance-free battery at a constant current equal to 1/10 of the battery capacity. 2 hours after the voltage on the battery stops changing, stop charging, or charge the battery with a current of 1.5 A. It is safer, however, it takes more time to restore its properties.
Step 6
Remember that charging too quickly with a high current will cause overheating, which will damage the battery plates. Make sure the electrolyte does not boil. Unplug the charger, cool the liquid and charge again.
Step 7
If the battery voltage is below 12, 2 V, it is completely discharged. In this case, contact a specialized center for help. The charging process must be under constant supervision of a specialist. In addition, it is long - up to three days.
Step 8
Some modern cars lose their electronics settings when the battery is removed. In this case, charge the maintenance-free battery without removing the battery from the machine. Do this in a dry and warm place. The battery must be at room temperature.
Step 9
Turn off or hibernate all electrical appliances and ignition. Be careful not to close the hood to avoid shorting the terminals. First, connect the charger to the battery with the current set to minimum. Then plug the charger into the mains. Increase the amperage gradually to avoid dangerous voltage surges.
