Step 1

You turn on the TV, but it does not respond in any way to your manipulations. The power indicator light does not light up, the television receiver does not show signs of life. In this case, first check that the TV is receiving power. Measure the voltage at the outlet with a tester. If there is, check the power cord to the power supply and the power button - for this you need to remove the back cover of the TV.

Step 2

If voltage is supplied to the power supply, check the output voltages, they should correspond to those indicated in the circuit diagram. Since the circuit is usually not included with the TV set, find it on the Internet by entering the exact name of your TV receiver.

Step 3

After removing the cover of the TV, carry out a visual inspection. Look for burnt or darkened parts, inspect the underside of printed circuit boards - sometimes, due to accumulated dust, short circuits occur between the tracks. If burnt parts are found, replace them with good ones. In the event that damage to the part does not allow you to see its marking, look at the necessary data on the schematic diagram.

Step 4

If shorted between conductors, strip the charred section of the board until clear plastic appears. If the printed wires are damaged, repair them by soldering wire lengths of the required length. Do everything carefully and efficiently, paying attention to the appearance of the repaired area. What looks nice and sound usually works well.

Step 5

In the event that visual inspection does not reveal obvious damage, check the voltages at the output of the power supply, focusing on the data in the circuit diagram. All voltages must correspond to the declared ones, only minor deviations are permissible. If there is no voltage, then either the power supply is faulty, or the malfunction is located further, in one of the consumers of this voltage.

Step 6

To check, disconnect the output of this voltage by pulling out the corresponding connector. If a new measurement shows that there is still no voltage at the output, the power supply is faulty. Look for the elements in the circuit that are responsible for the formation of this voltage. Electrolytic capacitors are usually faulty. Sometimes they can be identified visually by the characteristic swelling in the upper part - the top of the capacitor is not flat, but convex. Replace the defective capacitor with a similar one.

Step 7

If the power supply is working properly and all voltages correspond to the declared ones, the power indicator is on, but there is no image, check the scanner. Pay attention to whether the voltage is applied to the anode of the kinescope - its presence is easily determined by the characteristic crackle at the moment of switching on. Check the voltages at the test points, they are usually indicated on the circuit diagram. In the absence of the indicated voltages or their significant deviation, look for the cause by checking the radio elements located nearby. For LCD TVs, also start troubleshooting by monitoring the supply voltages.

Step 8

If there is no picture, try inputting a signal from a DVD player. If the TV normally reproduces an external signal, look for a malfunction in the tuner - the unit responsible for receiving and processing a television signal. Pre-check the antenna, receiver (if the TV signal is received from the satellite). Proceed to troubleshooting the TV only after making sure that all external elements are working properly.
