The VHS digitization procedure allows you to get a computer copy of a video from a cassette. This will allow you to dub your favorite video to a digital storage medium or view the resulting file on any modern devices designed for multimedia playback.
Preparing for digitizing
To digitize a video, you need to connect a cassette recorder to your computer. This is done using a home TV tuner used to receive a signal from the video output of other devices. A TV tuner card is a card that plugs into a PCI port on your computer. The adapter can be purchased from an electrical or radio store. There you can also buy an A / V cable, which is required to connect a tape recorder.
The TV tuner also allows you to watch TV programs on your computer from the TV and record them. Some TV tuners are equipped with special remotes.
After purchasing the device, install it on your computer. To do this, remove the side cover using a screwdriver or the latches on the case. Find a suitable free slot where the board can be installed, and then carefully insert the adapter into the slot. Secure it with the supplied screws, and then close the side cover of the computer.
After installing the adapter, connect the tape recorder. To do this, insert the purchased wire into the corresponding connector on the device panel. Insert the other plug of the wire into the tuner. After that, you can start the computer and the tape recorder to start recording video directly.
Image digitization
After the system boots, you will be prompted to install drivers for the new hardware. Install the disc that came with the tuner into your computer and wait for it to be detected in the system. On the screen, select "Automatic driver installation" and wait until the installation of the required software is completed. Once the installation and configuration is complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click "Yes" to apply the changes.
After installation, a shortcut to the program for digitizing the image should appear on the desktop. If not, install the required program manually from the disc using the media menu interface. Run the tuner control utility and select vhs mode. Insert the video cassette into the tape recorder. Click on the Play button of the device to start playing the video on the screen.
Depending on the tuner model, various applications can be installed that have different functionality. However, the principle of their work remains the same.
To adjust the image quality, use the program settings. In most cases, all parameters can be left at their default values, but if errors appear during video playback or digitizing, use this menu to fix them.
After setting the necessary parameters in the program window, click on the "Record video" button and wait until the end of the procedure.
Try not to launch other applications while the read is in progress. Digitization takes up a large amount of computer resources and, if there is a lack of them, the video quality can drop significantly. After completing the procedure, you can view your video file in the program folder or in the directory specified in the corresponding section of the utility options. Digitization of home videos is complete.
