The compass is a device that is difficult to do without on a hike or expedition. Thanks to this small gadget, a person can determine the location of the cardinal points, so an avid lover of outings in nature always has a compass with him. Many people want to make their compass unique. For example, to do this, you can insert a picture into it.

Necessary

  • - compass;
  • - medical gloves;
  • - screwdrivers;
  • - plastic tongs;
  • - a new background with a picture.

Instructions

Step 1

Examine your device carefully from all angles. You need to find out if your gadget can be disassembled without violating the integrity of the case. Some models are non-collapsible. If there are no bolts or plastic latches on the case, then it is better not to try to disassemble this unit, otherwise you risk ruining it.

Step 2

Unscrew all the bolts, having previously marked them, or carefully open the latches with a plastic screwdriver. Never use screwdrivers or other tools with a steel blade! Otherwise, you risk not only ruining the case, but also chipping the outer glass.

Step 3

Carefully detach the parts of the case. Find the small arrow mount, remove it from the axle. Now remove the magnetic arrow with plastic tweezers. Handle it with great care.

Step 4

Remove the backing, on which the symbols of the cardinal points are applied. Proceed with caution, as there may be a special liquid underneath in a small reservoir.

Step 5

Make a new backing board. It is best done with a thin piece of plastic or wax paper. Choose a picture so that it fits harmoniously into the dimensions of your compass. To do this, you need to make a template of the required size on a computer, and then print it on a printer.

Step 6

Cut out the template and do your first fitting. If the dimensions of the substrate and the inside of the compass are the same, then install the template and fix it so that it does not interfere with the free rotation of the magnetic needle.

Step 7

Then assemble the compass in reverse order. Before assembling, make sure there is no debris inside the compass and no greasy fingerprints on the glass. All manipulations with the magnetized arrow should be performed only with plastic tools. Never remove it with any metal objects, otherwise the arrow may demagnetize. If plastic tongs are not available, use regular matches.
