Each cell phone has its own identification number - IMEI (Mobile Equipment Identity). This number is entered into the phone during its production and may be useful in some situations.

IMEI is a kind of cell phone passport. Each time the phone connects to the network, the identification number is read by the telephone company's equipment. If in some difficult situation you want to ensure your anonymity and change your SIM card, you will still be able to be calculated by IMEI - after all, your phone remains the same.

There are two ways to find out the identification code of a cell phone. The easiest way is to dial the command "* # 06 #" (without quotes), a rather long row of numbers will appear on the phone screen - this is the IMEI.

Method two: turn off the phone, remove the cover, take out the battery. Under it, on the phone case, you will see a sticker on which this code is indicated. Usually, the code is also written on the phone box next to the barcode.

If you do not keep the phone box, then write down the identification code in a notebook or any other convenient place. Why is this needed? In the event that you lose your phone or it is stolen, you will have the opportunity to try to find it. How to do it?

First of all, you need to write a statement to the police about the theft and inform the IMEI of the stolen phone. Attempts to contact the mobile operator yourself will most likely yield nothing. But through the police, you can force mobile operators to trace the stolen phone and, at least, block it.

Keep in mind that a stolen phone is too small a matter for the police, so you will have to be persistent and ask to inform the IMEI of the mobile operators. In this case, you can hope that the stolen phone will still be found.
Step 7
IMEI can also be useful if you buy a hand-held phone without documents (which, in fact, you should not do). There are websites on the Internet that have posted the data of thousands of stolen and lost phones, you can always check if the phone you are buying is among them.

It is worth noting that in some cases the IMEI can be changed by flashing. USB modems also have an identification code. In order for the IMEI of the phone or modem to be tied to the SIM card, it is enough to turn it on once.
