Today, film photography is experiencing a rebirth. Despite the high cost of photographic materials in comparison with memory cards, classical photography is gaining many new adherents. Among novice photographers there are those who have never picked up a film camera before and do not know how to insert film into it.

Instructions

Step 1

Turn the camera with the back wall towards you and with the viewfinder eyepiece up. Locate the small vertical window on the left of the cover to indicate the presence of a film cassette. If there is no such window, look at the frame counter - its reading should be zero. If it is more than zero, but less than the number of frames on the previous film, continue shooting until all frames have been captured. If the tape is full, slide the rewind lever to the left and the tape will automatically rewind back to the cassette. For a machine without a motor, open the rewind knob and rewind the film by hand.

Step 2

After making sure that the counter reading is zero, locate the film compartment release lever on the left side wall of the camera. When the cover opens, remove the old cassette, if present. Install the new cassette so that the tab of the film protruding from it touches the gear located under the eyepiece of the viewfinder with its perforations. On older machines, it may be necessary to pull the film out a little and secure it in the take-up boss.

Step 3

Close the cover. In a machine with a motor, the film should automatically advance one frame, while the shutter will be cocked at the same time. In a device without a motor, for the same purpose, turn the rewind ring to the right until it clicks. In older cameras, for rewinding, pull the lever twice, and for cocking the shutter, use a small lever directly on the lens.

Step 4

Slide the lens cover to take a picture, this will automatically turn on the power and start charging the flash capacitor. The ready signal is the illumination or flashing of the indicator (neon lamp or LED). In older devices with an external flash, the latter will have to be turned on with a separate switch located on it.

Step 5

The shutter button is usually located in the same place on the body as on a digital camera. Less commonly, the release lever is mounted directly on the lens. It is much larger than the shutter cocking lever. In the second case, before shooting, you must manually adjust the focus, shutter speed and aperture.

Step 6

After shooting, rewind the film one frame forward and cock the shutter. The machine with the engine will do both of them itself. After removing all the tape, rewind it back into the cassette and remove it as described above.
