Mobile devices are a very whimsical technique, on which it will not always be possible to reproduce the format that you want. In this regard, users have a need to either download films of a certain format, or convert them.
Mobile phones are not always able to play videos in any particular format. The most popular are 3GP or MPEG-4 (MP4). Both of these formats have their own advantages and disadvantages. Of course, if your phone does not support some other format, for example AVI, then you need to convert the video to one of these formats or use special players.
The most popular formats for mobile devices
The 3GP format is mostly used on older mobile phones. It has a rather dubious advantage - it takes up a minimum amount of space. With this advantage, it has a significant disadvantage, which is that video recording in this format will have poor image quality. Naturally, if image quality is the most important thing for you, then this format will not work. One significant nuance should be noted - most mobile phones record video in 3GP format when recording video on their camera.
As for MPEG-4, files in this format will be slightly larger than 3GP. This is due to the fact that their quality (both image and sound) is an order of magnitude higher. If you have a modern phone, then this video format is perfect. The image will be perfectly acceptable, although the file will take up more space than 3GP.
Non-standard solutions
As mentioned above, after installing special programs (in particular, players, for example, SmartMovie or The Core Pocket Media Player, depending on the operating system used on the phone), it will be able to play other video formats, for example, AVI, on the phone. This format is quite common on the Internet. Unlike the previous two, it is something in between. The image quality is not the best, but it is quite acceptable, and as for the space occupied by such files, they do not weigh so much.
It is the video formats listed above that are the most popular, but the capabilities of each phone vary directly depending on the operating system used. For example, Windows Mobile phones, in addition to all the above formats, can play another one - WMV, which is also something in between 3GP and MPEG-4. This is quite logical, since the format itself was invented by Microsoft for Windows operating systems.
