Necessary

  • - A set of small diameter screwdrivers;
  • - button for replacement.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, turn off your iPhone. Then unscrew the bottom screws with a suitable screwdriver. If your phone has security screws, use a non-magnetized screwdriver to unscrew those as well. Now just pull the back cover up and open the latches, carefully set the screws aside.

Step 2

Now remove the SIM card with a special tool or a simple paper clip. Then remove the metal cover from the battery connector using the supplied screwdriver. The screws holding the bezel are located in the lower left corner of the battery. Proceed to disconnect the battery.

Step 3

The battery is connected to the motherboard. Using a flat tool, hold the connector and gently pull the battery cable upward until it disengages from the motherboard to then remove the battery. Now you need to get rid of the glue applied to the bottom of the battery. To do this, move the tool under the right side of the battery and remove the adhesive. Then remove the power supply from the recess. You will also notice a tiny grounding clip underneath the battery; this part is necessary for the antenna to function properly, save it for later assembly.

Step 4

Remove the overlay on the motherboard and disconnect the wire from it to the screen. Unscrew the two screws to remove the shield. Now remove the dock wire connector using a flat glue remover to pull it out easily.

Step 5

You can now see the five bolts holding the motherboard in place. It is very important to remember where each of them is originally located in order to properly install them when reassembling. Use a flat tool to remove the overlay above the motherboard. Pry the pad and gently pull it up. Be careful not to bend it.

Step 6

Now disconnect the wires from the camera to the screen. Lift the camera up carefully. You will notice a thin wire running from it to the digitizer and light sensor. Disconnect them carefully and completely pull the camera out of the recess.

Step 7

Then, carefully move the motherboard and camera to the side. Be careful not to damage the wires connecting the board to the sensors on the front panel. Now you can start replacing the button itself.

Step 8

The Home button is attached to the front panel with two small screws. They must be unscrewed. There is a small rubber pad under the button. Inspect it and replace if necessary.

Step 9

Reverse the steps and turn on the phone to test the functionality of the new button.
