A multimeter at home will help you determine the voltage in the outlet, check the suitability of the batteries, and also find out what the current is in the high voltage wires. Of course, doing this without special skills is not worth it.

It is necessary

  • - multimeter;
  • - skills in working with electrical appliances.

Instructions

Step 1

Use a multimeter to find out the voltage of the wires, as well as the winding resistance and current. Locate the windings. To do this, set the device to the resistance measurement mode or ring. Identify the groups of wires in the winding. Twist the ringing wires together, you can recognize them by the low resistance between them.

Step 2

Apply voltage to thick wires. You will not damage the transformer, even if something is wrong. If you are afraid of burning these wires, apply 6.3 V to the other wires, measure the voltage on the thick wires. Its value should be 220. Set the AC voltage measurement mode on the multimeter.

Step 3

After connecting, measure the voltage on other groups or pairs of wires. There are pieces of paper screwed on the wires, sign the results obtained on them. Measure the current. To do this, on a multimeter, move the probe from vr to 10 A, measure in pairs of wires, where is the current value.

Step 4

Check high voltage wires. First, inspect them, for example, for deformation of the plastic shell. If it is cracked or melted, then the wires must be replaced. Externally undamaged wires ring out with a multimeter. This device calculates the resistance of the wire and compares it with the permissible value.

Step 5

Set the multimeter to 20K, attach one pin to each end of the cable. After that, read the given resistance. Compare them with acceptable resistance values. For high voltage wires with a copper core, this value can range from 1 to 6.5K. For wires containing reactance, this indicator can be from 2.2K to 8K. If you ring carbon wires with distributed resistance, the value is between 10K and 23K.
