One of the dirtiest places on a bike is the bottom bracket. In this regard, cyclists from time to time are faced with the need to disassemble the carriage and clean it of dirt. To carry out this process, it is necessary to prepare the necessary tools in advance.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the bike in a comfortable position so that in case of something it does not fall. The fact is that removing the carriage requires some effort, and the instability of the structure can greatly interfere with this.
Step 2
Move the bike chain to the smallest drive sprocket, then remove it. There are two holes on the boot, into which insert the appropriate tool, and then unscrew the part from the connecting rod. Under the boot, you will see a hollow bolt that unscrews the hexagons by 10, while holding the pedals.
Step 3
Pull out the washer that is located under the bolt and remove the inner screw of the puller completely. Unscrew the puller from the connecting rod and remove the latter from the carriage. Repeat the same operation for the second axis.
Step 4
Take the special wrench and unscrew the right-hand lock nut located on the left side of the carriage. In this case, it is necessary to make some effort, but do not overdo it so as not to rip the key and damage the part. Some bike designs do not have this nut.
Step 5
Insert the slotted wrench for the carriage into the slot. Use an adjustable wrench to unscrew the left adapter cup, which has a right-hand thread, from the frame. When doing this, use tools with long handles to make it easier to turn and apply force. Remove the left cup together with the bearing.
Step 6
Go to the right side of the bike where the sprockets are located. Using a similar technique, unscrew the right bowl from the frame, which has a left-hand thread. Make an effort if necessary.
Step 7
Remove the cartridge or the right axle cup from the bike structure. Thus, it will be charged. Clean it from the system of grease with a cloth, then rinse all parts in a solvent, for example, in kerosene. Once they are dry, lubricate the carriage and place it back on the bike.
