By connecting an Apple TV to your TV, you can view files stored on computers running Mac OS X or Windows, as well as from iPhones and iPads on a large screen. The device also allows you to watch videos from YouTube on the TV screen.
Instructions
Step 1
In terms of architecture, Apple TV is a small computer. The first generation of the set-top box uses a processor with x86 architecture - Intel Pentium M. The second version of the device uses a processor with ARM architecture, which is more suitable for work in devices with low power consumption. It is called Apple A4 - the same is installed in the iPhone 4 and iPad. Interestingly, its real manufacturer is Samsung, and during the trial between Apple and this company, the supply of this processor did not stop.
Step 2
Having released the third version of the set-top box, the manufacturer used the Apple A5 processor in it. In addition to Apple TV, it is also used in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. This microcircuit is produced by two companies at once - Samsung and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). It also has an ARM architecture.
Step 3
The first version of the Apple TV has a hard drive of 40 or 160 gigabytes. This allows you to store some of the downloaded materials locally. But such a device turned out to be unreasonably expensive. In this regard, in the second version, the hard drive was replaced with an 8-gigabyte flash drive, and in the third it was decided to do without it, increasing the amount of RAM from 256 to 512 MB. Thanks to this, the cost of the car turned out to be extremely low - less than $ 100.
Step 4
All options of the set-top box can be connected to a home router with a cable or via the WiFi interface. Moreover, if the first version of the device provides a wireless adapter compatible with the B and G standards, then in the second and third it also began to support the N standard. Also, in the second and third generations of Apple TV, a Bluetooth interface was added.
Step 5
With the release of the second version of Apple TV, the owners of TVs with analog video inputs were disappointed: after all, the corresponding outputs were no longer in the set-top box. Now it has become possible to connect the device to the TV only via the HDMI interface. On the other hand, the rejection of the hard disk allowed to drastically reduce the power consumption of the machine - from 48 to 6 watts.
Step 6
To control the unit, you can use the Apple Remote, which resembles the iPod Shuffle. In addition, you can control Apple TV from your iPhone. In this case, the WiFi interface is used instead of the infrared port.
